On October 6, we partnered with GHJ to present the IFTA Connect Session Trends in Hollywood Dealmaking & Sharing of Profits: A Look Back & Forward at the Risk v. Reward Model. Featured speakers, Anita Wu (Managing Partner, GHJ), Peter Klass (Partner, GHJ), and James Roiz (SVP, Film Finance & Business Operations, PARTICIPANT), discuss the evolution of profit participations and offer deep insights into the variety of profit-sharing deal types, as well as the impact of streaming on legacy contracts.
The session also covered the rapid evolution of profit sharing in the new distribution ecosystem and points to consider from the view of a deal maker, the dramatic contrast between “traditional” back-end participations vs. the “negotiated buyout,” including the pros and cons of each approach as well as trends and predictions.
