Independent Films Make a Big Impact with 44 Golden Globes Nominations in 13 Categories
Los Angeles, CA - February 4, 2021 - Independent films – those made outside the six major Hollywood studios – are strong Golden Globes® contenders this year with 22 films earning 44 nominations across 13 feature-length motion picture categories, the Independent Film & Television Alliance® is pleased to announce.
IFTA member companies were involved in the production, financing, sales and/or distribution of 11 of this year’s independent film nominees, including FilmNation, Great Point Media, HanWay Films, Magnolia Pictures, Protagonist Pictures, Rocket Science, Sierra/Affinity, TrustNordisk, and Wild Bunch. Independents are dominating the Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Actress - Drama, Best Actress - Musical/Comedy, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Song categories, taking four of the five nominations for each.
